Not quite ready to leave the nature after Burning Mountain? Zernez and the surrounding region offer more than enough reasons to stay a little longer. Nestled in the Lower Engadin, this area is the perfect starting point to explore untouched nature, alpine landscapes and authentic Swiss mountain life.



Swiss National Park


Zernez is known as the gateway to the Swiss National Park, Switzerland’s oldest and most strictly protected nature reserve. Here, nature is left entirely to itself, creating a unique landscape that feels wild, raw and authentic.


What you can do:


  • Hiking: Over 80 km of marked trails lead through forests, valleys and mountain passes

  • Wildlife spotting: With a bit of patience, you might see ibex, red deer, marmots or even golden eagles

  • Val Trupchun: One of the most popular valleys, especially known for wildlife observation

  • National Park Centre: Located in Zernez, this visitor centre gives a great introduction to the park, its rules and its ecosystem

Glaciers & Alpine Landscapes


The Engadin region is home to impressive high-alpine scenery, including glaciers that shape the landscape and feed its rivers. A great way to experience this is by exploring nearby mountain passes and higher elevation hikes.



Highlights:


  • Ofenpass (Pass dal Fuorn): One of the most scenic routes in the region, offering access to breathtaking alpine terrain

  • Morteratsch Glacier (within reach by car/train): One of the most accessible glaciers in Switzerland, where you can walk right up to the ice

  • Panoramic hikes: Various trails in the wider Engadin region offer views of glaciers, peaks and vast valleys


Even if you’re not an experienced hiker, there are plenty of easier routes with rewarding views.

Zernez itself is a quiet, authentic mountain village. Perfect for slowing down after the energy of the festival.
